Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief

BROADWAY

As a church, Broadway plans to partner with Christian Relief Fund (CRF) and Disaster Response Team (DRT) to insure resources are being directed in the best possible way. Milton Jones, with CRF, has indicated 100% of all funds contributed through them will be directed to actual disaster relief. There will be no waste. DRT does an excellent job and will likely stay engaged in this region for at least 2 years.

RESPONSE TO THE DISASTER

As most of you are aware, Hurricane Harvey tore into Texas this weekend with 110+ mph winds and a storm surge that devastated the Texas coast near Corpus Christi. The damage is catastrophic and the human impact is shocking.

The Coastal area is now suffering from life-threatening flooding caused by heavy rainfall reaching 50+ inches in some areas.

Many thousands of people are currently in shelters throughout the region. This number is expected to rise as the rain continues and many local rivers crest, later this week.

As a church, we plan to partner with CRF and DRT to insure resources are being directed in the best possible way. Both organizations have immediately responded to this disaster. Milton Jones, with CRF, has indicated 100% of all funds contributed through them will be directed to actual disaster relief. There will be no waste. DRT does an excellent job and will likely stay engaged in this region for probably at least 2 years.

Five large response trailers are already located in Portland, Texas. They are stationed in the Portland Church of Christ parking lot which is located very close to where the eye of the hurricane passed. This area was devastated by the storm. CRF and DRT are initially setting up to work in this area. If you are interested in going to Portland to help, they will be set up to except volunteers in approximately a week. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please call the church office or talk with a staff member or Elder. Because this crisis will not be over for several years, CRF is in need of volunteers to help with immediate needs and future needs. We are also looking at multiple avenues and options to help the people of the coastal region. This is a first step in what will be a long process.

In the early stages of their response, they (DRT) will provide clean water, food, showers and housing to hurricane victims.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

GIVE

There are many needs and many ways to help. The best way you can help today is to donate money. Your gift will be used to keep their team in place and to provide immediate help with water, food and other short-term needs. As relief for these basic needs becomes less immediate, the CRF/DRT team will transition into helping clean up and rebuild the most affected areas.
